Leah Wheeling is a middle school physical educator at Simle Middle School in Bismarck, North Dakota, where she has taught since 2014. She is known for creating high-energy, inclusive learning environments that maximize participation, build confidence, and inspire lifelong movement. Leah also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Mary, and is an active leader in the profession through ND SHAPE, conference presentations, state standards writing teams, and professional learning opportunities. Leah has been recognized as the SHAPE America National Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year (2026) and the Governor’s Innovative Educator Award (2024). Outside of school, Leah enjoys staying active with her husband, Thomas, and their two children, Michael and Sarah.
