2021-2025 Strategic Plan

Part I – Introduction

Mission: The mission of Wisconsin Health and Physical Education (WHPE) is to
provide professional development opportunities for its members and to be advocates for
the health and physical education profession.

Purpose: The purpose of this strategic plan is to ensure WHPE will remain relevant
and responsive to all health educators, physical educators, and adapted physical
educators in Wisconsin, fostering cohesiveness and collaboration of those three areas.

Strategic Partners: WHPE’s strategic partners include the Wisconsin
Department of Public Instruction, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and the
Society of Health and Physical Educators.

Strategic Goals: The achievement of four strategic goals will ensure the continued
relevance and vibrancy of WHPE:

Advocacy     Support and maintain HPE professionals with the tools to create
health and physical literacy and provide for equitable physical, mental, emotional,
and social wellbeing of individuals at the personal, school, and community levels.

Fiscal Sustainability     Generate funds for everyday operations, professional
advocacy within districts, and professional development efforts. A balanced
budget with funds carried over to the next fiscal year is our measure of success.

Membership     Recruit and retain dedicated diverse professionals and future
professionals into our membership, and provide leadership opportunities.

Professional Development     Provide the best quality professional
development to our members through both in-person and virtual opportunities as
this is a critical component of staying on the cutting edge of our profession.

Part II – Strategic Goals, Action Items, Recommendations

Advocacy     Support and maintain HPE professionals with the tools to create health
and physical literacy and provide for equitable physical, mental, emotional, and social
wellbeing of individuals at the personal, school, and community levels.

  1. Develop equitable learning opportunities
  2. Use communication tools to share successes and overcome challenges
  3. Conduct Quality HPE Best Practices/Leadership
  4. Engage With/Get Involved in the Community

Fiscal Sustainability     Generate funds for everyday operations, professional
advocacy within districts, and professional development efforts. A balanced budget with
funds carried over to the next fiscal year is our measure of success.

  1. Advertise and distribute benefits of membership to attract new members
  2. Advertise to realize high attendance at every convention
  3. Increase access and use of external funds to sponsor health and
    physical education programs and membership to WHPE
  4. Increase the number of fundraising events with our partners, Health.Moves.Minds. and Game-On

Membership     Recruit and retain dedicated diverse professionals and future
professionals into our membership, and provide leadership opportunities.

  1. Make new members (first-time future professional and professional
    members, past members with a lapse of 5+ years) feel welcome and
    supported
  2. Attract diverse non-members through various mediums
  3. Maintain current membership and provide opportunities for leadership
  4. Improve future professionals networking to increase membership

Professional Development     Provide the best quality professional development to
our members through both in-person and virtual opportunities as this is a critical
component of staying on the cutting edge of our profession.

  1. Provide a quality annual state convention and professional development
    opportunities, which meet the needs of all our members including
    physical education, health, adapted physical education, and future
    professionals
  2. Support Health and Physical Education conferences which directly tie to
    our mission and vision of WHPE
  3. Support our members through outreach from the WHPE Board and
    connections to Professional Learning Communities
  4. Recruit membership to be active in WHPE functions

The WHPE 2021-2025 Strategic Plan should be reviewed annually to monitor progress
toward the completion of each strategic goal. The Strategic Plan can be adjusted as
needed to further the completion of each strategic goal.
