
Sandee Ortiz is an accomplished Physical Education and Health Teacher with 28 years of experience, currently inspiring students at Sun Prairie West High School in Wisconsin. Prior to joining Sun Prairie in 2019, she dedicated 21 years to teaching in the Delavan-Darien School District, where she laid the foundation for her impactful career.
As a Nationally Board Certified Teacher (NBCT), Sandee is deeply committed to providing a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. Her extensive experience in curriculum writing includes developing the Wisconsin 2021 Physical Education State Standards and contributing to the National Board Standards in 2018. Her dedication to health and physical education has earned her numerous prestigious awards, including the 2022 Wisconsin Health Teacher of the Year, the 2024 SHAPE Midwest District Health Teacher of the Year, and the 2025 SHAPE National Health Teacher of the Year.
In addition to her teaching role, Sandee is actively involved in leadership within the education community. She currently serves as the President of the Wisconsin Health and Physical Education (WHPE) and previously held the position of SHAPE Midwest President in 2023.
Sandee believes in the importance of engaging curriculum writing that is standards-aligned. She is passionate about empowering her students to take ownership of their health and physical activity, fostering a lifelong appreciation for well-being. Through her innovative teaching methods and leadership, Sandee continues to make a significant impact in the lives of her students and the broader community.
